I am very lucky that where I live is surrounded by many examples of safe places that my clients use. For those of you that do not know a Safe Place is a virtual place that you can go to when things are becoming too much for you. It is used in many therapies. In EMDR we create a safe place by considering what you can see, smell, hear, touch and taste (many a glass of wine, cocktail, mango, chocolate, ice cream has made it's way into a safe place). The image is then reinforced using an EMDR technique. The outcome is that for most people you can get to your safe place pretty instantly by thinking of a specific word or place. My Safe place is in a swimming pool, just me enjoying the water..bliss. I see other people's safe places wherever I go. I was walking yesterday and realised how many safe places are on my doorstep...woodlands, water, fields. I draw on the safe places of other people and absorb this into my own well being - thank you every one for having such great safe places!
